women working

On a soft Spring morning, when I passed by, this young woman was sweeping the stairs of her hair salon. It wasn’t only her hair color that caught my attention, it was the calm and meditative way in which she was sweeping.

Simple physical tasks can momentarily take you out of yourself and away from your ego.

I like sweeping. It’s a simple job that you can start and finish in a short amount of time and the results, to me, are really gratifying. I’ve moved no mountains, I haven’t written a novel, but the floor is clean and my mind clear.

I’ve been doing some sweeping these past few months, literally and metaphorically. I’ve moved to a new apartment, and I’ve moved to a new way of thinking about this blog as well. I hope you enjoy the results.

I love this blog post… when you feel stuck, clean out a drawer.

I really like this “Women Working.” It just about speaks for itself.

I like to clean. Whenever I share this with other women I receive blank stares. But there’s something very therapeutic in the act of removing dust and cobwebs from the place you live. It’s a catharsis of sweeping away yesterday to make a clean slate for today.

Yes, agree. In yoga, one of the Niyamas, or ethical practices, is Saucha, purity. Sounds prudish I know, but it really is about cleanliness of the body, soul, and surroundings. I love that.

A good physical cleansing with raw foods and juices is a great way to let go of the old and bring harmony to the body-mind. Funny, what ends up happening is all the drawers and closets get cleaned right along with your body.
